Memory Cafe

Socialization in a Relaxed and Positive Environment

A Memory Café is a welcoming place for all individuals with Alzheimer’s Disease or any type of dementia, their family, friends, and caregivers. The first Memory Café opened in Holland in 1997, starting a worldwide movement.  While unique to each community, cafés offer a combination of socialization, education and activities including the arts, music, dancing, crafts and games, all in a relaxed and positive environment. Memory cafés can be found in a variety of places, such as libraries, community centers, restaurants, churches, parks and now even virtually on Zoom. The National Directory of Memory Cafés – Café Connect can be found at https://www.memorycafedirectory.com/cafe-connect/

NAZADA's café is the MAJESTIC MOUNTAIN CAFÉ. Since this was a new undertaking for us, we started off small to make sure we were managing this event in the best possible way for all participants. We invited care partners from the local Alzheimer’s support group and the person they were caring for to participate in our Café. We’ve had several successful gatherings and are ready to expand the group. This is a free event.

The Café is held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. and lasts for approximately one hour. Our guests are offered light snacks and beverages. Our volunteers start by asking a question based on the theme for the Café that day. This encourages people to engage and feel relaxed. Some of the activities offered included meeting a caring canine, decorating gingerbread cookies, painting DIY birdhouses to take home, and an Easter egg hunt with prizes. We are always looking for creative ideas that are fun and encourage people to participate with the group. Feedback from all the events have all been very positive. Seating is limited. If you would like to join, please contact us at info@nazada.org.
