SUMMARY:Majestic Mountain Café
DESCRIPTION:3rd Tuesday of every month excluding December \n10:00 am – 11:30 am \nThe Peaks Senior Living\, 3150 N. Winding Brook Road Flagstaff\, AZ  86001 \n\nThe Majestic Mountain Café was launched in August 2021 by NAZADA. It is now also a key part of the Dementia Friendly Flagstaff initiative. This event is for caregivers and those they care for with Alzheimer’s or related dementias. Our focus is on enjoying time together\, creating connections\, and reducing isolation. Several activities are arranged each month to appeal to people’s varying interests. It is a nurturing opportunity where people may engage “where they are at”.\n \nGatherings start with a “warm chatter” lead by one of our volunteers that helps set the tone for the rest of the time. Activities have included chair volleyball with balloons\, chair yoga\, hand massages\, rock painting\, preparing no bake dog treats to name just a few of the many activities. There have been some wonderful\, positive reactions. \nAt an event focusing on memorable vacations\, a person suddenly started speaking and you could see a look of pure joy on her face as she was able to focus on her old memories in a photograph. She hadn’t spoken in a long time\, and we don’t know what she said. It didn’t matter. She was happy! On another occasion a quiet couple suddenly stood up and started dancing to old songs that were being played. One woman told us\, “I always like coming here. You don’t force me to do anything or tell me I can’t do something.” Time here is all about having fun. \nAnyone caregiver interested in bringing the person they are caring for must contact Karin Von Kay in advance at  \nNAZdementiafriend@outlook.com or 928-607-9783
